It is a common occurrence following a fall, as the wrist absorbs. The kinds of distal radius fractures are so varied and the treatment options are so broad that it is hard to describe what to expect. This simple treatment has major benefits in terms of cost and reduction of the number of attendances. A Torus fracture, also known as a buckle fracture is the most common fracture in children. Many distal radius fractures in people over 60 are due to osteoporosis (decreased density of the bones) if the fall was relatively minor (a fall from a standing position). There is no evidence that further follow-up is required. A total of 117 children with buckle fracture treated. 1 Surgery is generally indicated if the joint surface is broken and does not line up, the radius is overly short, or the joint surface of the radius is tilted more than 10 backwards. One Brace: One Visit: Treatment of Pediatric Distal Radius Buckle Fractures With a Removable Wrist Brace and No Follow-up Visit. Treatment is with casting for six weeks or surgery. Simple treatment for torus fractures of the distal radius. The patient should be reviewed on the following day to confirm the diagnosis and to give appropriate advice. A buckle fracture is a stable fracture where there is a dorsal cortex compression of the distal radius. Davidson JS, Brown DJ, Barnes SN, Bruce CE. We suggest that a ‘Futura-type’ wrist splint can be used to treat these fractures. The questionnaire showed a marked variation in the way in which these injuries are treated with regard to the method and period of immobilisation, the number of follow-up visits and radiographs taken. Only one patient did not tolerate the splint which was replaced by a cast. There was no difference in outcome between the two groups, and all patients had a good result. Application of Removable Wrist Splint in the Management of Distal Fore- arm Torus Fractures 2013 Saeed Safari Background: There is considerable variation in the treatment of distal forearm torus fractures (DFTF), from soft bandaging to cast immobilization. All patients were treated for a period of three weeks, followed by clinical and radiological review. ![]() Traditional approaches to their management involved immobilisation in a circumferential cast but the evidence now supports the use of removable splints with or without radiological and clinical follow-up. Over a six-month period, we randomised 201 consecutive patients with this injury to treatment with either a traditional forearm plaster-of-Paris cast or a ‘Futura-type’ wrist splint. Torus fractures, also known as buckle fractures, of the distal radius are a very common reason for presentation to emergency departments. 1 A buckle (i.e., torus) fracture in children usually occurs at the distal metaphysis where the. Based on the results of a postal questionnaire and a prospective, randomised trial, we describe a simple treatment for this injury, which saves both time and money. Narrative: Wrist fractures involving the distal radius are the most common fractures in children. Torus (buckle) fractures of the distal radius are common in childhood. Treatment options include nonoperative immobilization, closed reduction and percutaneous pinning, and open reduction internal fixation.
